Powers in place to prevent further disorder after fireworks set off in Birmingham
Increased police patrols are happening across the city.
Police in Birmingham have been given additional powers to stop further firework disorder and keep people safe in the city centre.
It comes after disorder around Bagot Street and Staniforth Street yesterday (31 October) with groups launching fireworks at each other, buildings and then officers trying to protect the public.
No-one was seriously injured and nine people were arrested. They remain in custody for questioning.
West Midlands Police said officers will be visible in the area today, and will be looking to arrest anyone who commits a criminal offence and charge them.
They will also be using section 60 powers, which enables them to stop and search anyone without reasonable grounds, between 5pm and 5am tomorrow (2 November).
A spokesperson said: "We want to reiterate such deplorable behaviour is not acceptable and puts innocent others at risk of harm.
"The safety of our communities is paramount and we'll do all we can to ensure this."
