A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in Ward End last night.

Police were called to reports of a disorder on Heath Way at around 7:15pm where they found a man with multiple stab wounds.

The 27-year-old is in a serious condition.

Officers have now been extra powers to help investigate the case.

Section 60 powers enable police to stop and search people they suspect of being involved in violence, without the need of reasonable grounds.

Detective Inspector Tom Lyons from West Midlands Police said: “We’re urgently trying to establish what happened yesterday. We are carrying out CCTV enquiries in the area and speaking with a number of witnesses.

“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch as soon as possible.

“We will have an increase of officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community.”
