Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Northfield.

Two pedestrians were struck by a black Mercedes near the junction of Frankley Beeches Road, and Sir Herbert Austin Way, at just before 1pm on Monday (16 February).

A man and a woman, both aged in their 60s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Sadly, their conditions have deteriorated and the injuries are now considered to be life-threatening to them both.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and he's since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A man and a woman have been left with very serious injuries and our thoughts are with them and family members at this time.

"We've already spoken to a number of potential witnesses but we know there were a lot of other people in the area at the time. We'd urge them to come forward so we can establish what happened.
