Police appeal for witnesses after child seriously hurt in Birmingham hit-and-run

An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a van in Hodge Hill on Saturday evening (31 Aug).

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a young boy was hit by a van that then failed to stop in Hodge Hill.

The 11-year-old boy was struck by a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van moments after getting off a bus near to the Clock Garage on Coleshill Road last Saturday (31 Aug) around 6:40pm.

The boy was left with a serious head injury for which he needed surgery. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police found the van but are now appealing for information to locate the driver.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at West Midlands Police, said: “The boy suffered a significant head injury and we need to talk to the driver.

“I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have any information including dashcam footage to please get in touch with us.

“A young boy was seriously injured and I would like to make a direct appeal to the driver to do the right thing and make contact with us.
