Pensioner dies after house fire in Kingswinford
Fire crews were called to a property on Saturday morning
West Midlands Fire Service say that at 7.10am on Saturday 6 January they responded to a house fire in Berkeley Drive, Kingswinford.
Four fire crews attended, from Brierley Hill, Stourbridge, Dudley and Tipton fire stations.
The fire was on the ground floor of a detached house, from which a man in his late eighties was rescued by firefighters.
He was handed into the care of the ambulance service and taken to hospital where he very sadly died later the same day.
A dog was also recovered from the premises, but did not survive.
The man’s wife was outside the house when crews arrived, with no apparent injuries. The Fire Service says their thoughts are with her at this extremely difficult time, and with everyone affected by this tragic incident.
Crews were able to contain the fire to two downstairs rooms, although the entire house was affected by smoke.
Investigators believe that the fire started accidentally and will prepare a full report for HM Coroner.
