Mural celebrating final season of Peaky Blinders unveiled in Birmingham
The first episode will have a red carpet premiere
A mural celebrating the final series of the hit drama Peaky Blinders has been unveiled in Birmingham.
The piece shows Cillian Murphy in his role as Tommy Shelby, the leader of a group of gangsters in the Birmingham area.
Spanning a massive 42ft, the mural is painted on the end of a terraced building along a busy stretch of road in the east of Birmingham.
The art was done by popular street artist Akse, who has been responsible for other high-profile pieces such as a Marcus Rashford mural in south Manchester.
Speaking to the BBC, Akse said that as a fan of the show, it was a pleasure for him to work on the piece.
"As a big fan of the show, it's kind of a dream project for me; it's the kind of project I would have done off my own back," he said.
"So when the BBC contacted me to be involved, it was quite the dream come true."
He also said that the mural's location in Digbeth, not too far from where the show is set - in Small Heath - Akse also said he hopes the piece will resonate with the local community.
Fans of the gritty drama will be able to visit the mural on High Street, in the Digbeth area of the city.
The unveiling of the mural comes as the long-awaited sixth and final series of Peaky Blinders is set to premiere on BBC One on February 27th.
However, for 300 lucky fans of the show, they will have a chance to see the first episode in a red-carpet event three days before everyone else.
A ballot has been set up to randomly draw names for the tickets to the show, which will be screened at the Cineworld on Broad Street in the city.
