Anita Stone Court is opening their doors to help the older community stay warm this winter.

The new warmth bank will run between 10.30am and 2.30pm on weekdays for the next 12 weeks.

It comes thanks to funding from the Grid Community fund, which has also allowed them to purchase 100 electric blankets to help people stay warm at home.

CEO at Broadening Choices for Older People, Helen Gore, said:

“Older people who may be concerned about heating their homes will be welcomed into the Bistro, as a warm, safe place to meet others”

“We will be giving away 100 free electric blankets, as this is a very cheap way to stay warm during winter months. If you can’t afford to heat your whole home, at least be warm in bed!”

Helen also told us Octopus Energy calculated that over 12 weeks, using an electric blanket for four hours per day instead of turning up the heating, could save customers up to 19% or £300 per year from their energy bills.

The BCOP warmth bank will be asked to provide contact details and to score their well-being at the end of the project, so that we know how successful the warmth bank has been this year.

If you or anyone you know would like to saty warm whilst enjoying a cuppa and meet new people you can find out more about BCOP and the new warmth bank on their website.
