More than 250 homeless and vulnerable people are expected to sit down for a three course dinner at Birmingham's New Street Station today.

Charity Midland Langar Seva Society has teamed up with the National Rail to put on the free Christmas event for the 9th year in a row.

The event is returning in the form of a sit-down meal for the first time since 2019, after being offered as an outdoor takeaway service for the last two years due to Covid restrictions.

They will also be putting on entertainment at the event in the form of a DJ, carol singers and Father Christmas.

And organisers are predicting this to be their busiest event to date amidst the cost-of-living crisis.

The charity was set up in 2013 in Walsall and now provides over 150,000 hot meals per month to those living in poverty, alongside many other amazing projects both in the UK and abroad.

The CEO of the charity Randir Singh tells us that everyone should have the opportunity to celebrate Christmas: "Christmas time for us as an organisation is very important as we find that our services users are sad during this period. They are missing their families, their loved ones and they can be suffering from depression and loneliness."

"Sometimes, it's just being there for these people, they are like a 2nd family to us. It's not just about feeding their bodies, but also about feeding their souls."

"If it wasn't for us, they would of sat outside on the streets being ignored by the general public - they are made to feel invisible at time. It's just to show them that we care and that to them means a lot."
