A man who stole car and ran over its owner, causing serious injury, has been jailed.

William Lewis stole a car at a petrol station forecourt in Tyburn in November 2023.

As Lewis sped off, the owner of the vehicle became trapped under the car, and was dragged along.

The robbery left the owner of the car with life-changing injuries which he is still recovering from today.

The car was later found abandoned in Chelmsley Wood with Lewis, who's 40, actively avoiding arrest. However, he was tracked down and to an address in Chelmsley Wood.

While being arrested, Lewis assaulted two officers, with his abusive behaviour continuing when he arrived at our custody block.

He repeatedly swore at officers and refused to come out of his cell to be interviewed.

Further enquiries found Lewis had been responsible for other car thefts in Yardley and Solihull.

Lewis was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court for 11 and-a-half years for robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged with assaulting officers in custody as well as a previous burglary in Birmingham.
