Man jailed after crashing car in police chase in Birmingham
Saif Rehman has been sentenced to 22 months in prison.
A man has been jailed for driving dangerously around Birmingham.
Saif Rehman was spotted by traffic officers driving a suspected cloned and stolen BMW in Sparkhill, Birmingham in July.
Rehman failed to stop for police and continued driving more than double the speed limit, through red lights and over taking other cars through Birmingham.
At one point, Rehman went the wrong way around an island and collided with another car before making off and eventually hitting a wall.
The National Police Air Service tracked him running away from the crashed car, before officers detained him casually walking along Blakeland Street, #BordesleyGreen.
The 23-year-old of Raymond Avenue, Birmingham, previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop on Wednesday (30 August) was sentenced to 22 months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court and disqualified from driving for two years and 11 months.
PC Simon Smith from our Force Traffic Unit, said: "Rehman drove at incredibly dangerous speeds in his failed attempt to escape, all because he shouldn't have been on the road in the first place. I hope this sentence shows Rehman and others that we will not tolerate dangerous driving on our streets and we will take action."
Road safety is a key issue for WMP; we know that by working together with local communities and partners we can make significant progress in creating safer roads. We are actively patrolling key areas to enforce speed limits and protect our communities from the dangers of excessive speed and other road harm issues.
