A man has died following a collision in Birmingham, which police are treating as a suspected hit-and-run.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Belgrave Middleway at 2.08pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), where a car and cyclist had collided.

Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Midland Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:

“Upon arrival at the scene we found a man who was the cyclist.

“He was assessed and was in a critical condition. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support to him.

“Unfortunately, despite their best efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“The driver of the car did not require treatment.”

Sergeant Julie Lyman, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are still trying to identify the man who sadly died.

“We believe he was struck by a white Audi which we have recovered. The driver has been identified and is currently in hospital. He will be spoken to in due course.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or who may have information which could assist us to please get in touch.

“We’d encourage witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact us via Live Chat on our website or call us on 101 quoting log number 2461 of 16 May.”
