A man has died following a collision in Birmingham, which police are treating as a suspected hit-and-run.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Belgrave Middleway at 2.08pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), where a car and cyclist had collided.

Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Midland Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:

ā€œUpon arrival at the scene we found a man who was the cyclist.

ā€œHe was assessed and was in a critical condition. Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support to him.

ā€œUnfortunately, despite their best efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

ā€œThe driver of the car did not require treatment.ā€

Sergeant Julie Lyman, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ā€œWe are still trying to identify the man who sadly died.

ā€œWe believe he was struck by a white Audi which we have recovered. The driver has been identified and is currently in hospital. He will be spoken to in due course.

ā€œI would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or who may have information which could assist us to please get in touch.

ā€œWe’d encourage witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact us via Live Chat on our website or call us on 101 quoting log number 2461 of 16 May.ā€
