Man critical after stabbing in Handsworth

A man is in a critical condition after being stabbed in Birmingham.

He was found with potentially life-threatening injuries in Handsworth this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 12.14am to Whitehall Road and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found a man with critical injuries.

“Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced trauma care before he was conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

“MERIT travelled on board to provide continued treatment en route”.

West Midlands Police said a man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and has been taken to hospital for treatment to an arm injury.

A cordon is in place while forensic examinations take place.

Police are also carrying out house to house enquiries and securing CCTV.
