Body found by police investigating murder in Worcester

Two cordons remain in place across the city

A body of a woman in her 20s has been found by police investigating a murder in Worcester.

She was found in the River Severn last night.

The family have been informed, but formal identification has not yet taken place

A 24-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder. West Mercia Police say they're not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Cordons remain in place at Waterworks Road and Cheviot Close in Worcester, as part of the investigation.

They're asking people to remain out of these areas whist they investigate.

The Diglis footbridge cordon has now been removed.

Officers were working with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police Specialist Search team on their search of the River Severn in the Diglis area last night

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Dean Jones, said:

“Unfortunately, we have located the body of a woman in her 20s in the River Severn during our searches last night.

A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday and remains in police custody. This is an isolated incident and I can confirm that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.”
