Man arrested after death of 12-year-old in Birmingham

The boy was struck by a car while he rode his bike last night.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 12-year-old boy was hit in Birmingham last night.

The child was riding his bike on Coventry Road when he was struck.

Despite efforts from emergency services, he sadly died at the scene.

Ambulance workers and police responded to calls shortly after 6:15pm on Thursday (8 June) to Coventry Road at the junction with Berkley Road.

The victim's family is being supported with specially trained officers as they try to come to terms with what has happened.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being unfit through drugs and remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are appealing for witnesses and in particular for people with dash cam footage to please contact us. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy and we are doing all we can to support them at this very difficult time.”
