A beloved phone box in Leominster, known locally as ‘Bertie’, has been restored to its former glory.

The newly restored Bertie has been dedicated to Jeremy (Jack) Daw, a retired paramedic who returned to work during the height of the pandemic.

With many paramedics catching Covid, services were under significant pressure and Jack came out of retirement to help.

Unfortunately, after a few weeks back at work, Jack was involved in a road accident while in the ambulance and passed away.

Along with restoring the character of the phone box, the new Bertie will have a defibrillator installed inside.

BT donated the phone box located in Barsgate, Leominster to the Community Heartbeat Trust and with the support of local people and Leominster in Bloom, it was restored to its former glory.

Costing over four thousand pounds, the new Bertie was opened by the widow of Jack Daw, along with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire Lady McFarlane and the Mayor of Leominster.
