A hotel in Oldbury had to be evacuated after a severe fire broke out at a food outlet.

Around 40 firefighters were called to the property on Wolverhampton Road at around 11.30am (26 April).

50 people were evacuated from a neighbouring hotel and taken to alternative accommodation, as crews tackled the blaze.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene into this evening.

An update on Twitter from West Midlands Fire said:" Plans are being made to reduce our resources at the scene, but some crews are likely to remain into the evening.

"The fire appears to have started in a store room. Cause not yet clear. As a precaution, around 50 guests from a hotel were relocated to alternative accommodation.

"The fire alarm at a neighbouring hotel is now fully functional and as such, the hotel has reopened for guests."

Two people are understood to have been affected by smoke, and received treatment at the scene.
