'Demand has gone up exponentially' - more Herefordshire families asking for help
More families than ever are struggling to pay their energy bills
Families in Herefordshire are asking for more help with their energy bills as the new energy cap announced that the typical household energy bill will hit £3,549 a year from the 1st October.
The Herefordshire Community Foundation is a grant making foundation, distributing grants to the people who need it the most in the community.
One of their services are grants to help families with their energy bills. This year, they have already given out three times the amount of grants compared to last year.
CEO of the foundation Bridie Sullivan told us: "Demand has gone up exponentially since last winter, usually we would distribute around 30 fuel grants and we are well over 100 already. And I'm sure we're not even touching the surface,"
It's very worrying for us because we hear stories every week about families who are really struggling and that financial struggle causes a lot of anxiety. What we try and do is target support at who needs it the most," she said.
The foundation are asking for people to donate to their grant scheme on their website: https://www.herefordshirecf.org/ where you can also access help.
Herefordshire Council have set up a 'Money on your Mind' page which provides support for people struggling. You can access it here.
