The Government haven't ruled out helping Birmingham City Council with their financial turmoil.

It's as the Chancellor visited the NEC in Birmingham today to open the country's largest EV Charging Hub.

He hailed the region as a leader in the technology.

But with Birmingham City Council under increasing pressure to fix their finances, after they effectively filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday.

We asked Jeremy Hunt whether the Government's prepared to stand by and allow Europe's largest authority to go bankrupt.

To that he said: "They've had a decade to deal with equal pay issues, which other councils have and they have not.

"So, it's incredibly disappointing.

"Despite that we have a lot of inward investment and exciting things happening in this region, but just think how better it would, even more jobs, even more investment if we had the right leaders at Birmingham City Council.

"We have only heard this news on Tuesday, we haven't had a request for help.

"If and when we do, we will look into it closely and of course do the right things for the people of Birmingham."

Talks are still ongoing between the council and government, along with an independent review into the council will be released in the coming weeks.

However, it's still not clear what the solution is in Birmingham and what impact it will have on services.
