Good Hope Hospital receives warning after unsafe staff shortages
An inspection was carried out last year
Good Hope Hospital has been served with a warning notice to make significant changes and immediate improvements to its staffing levels in medical care.
It's after an urgent, unannounced inspection was carried out there at the end of last year because of concerns raised by people and their families around the care and treatment they received at the hospital.
The report highlighted that despite staff working extremely hard under pressure, there was concerns that leaders were not appropriately managing priorities.
And one person even suffered a possible head injury after a fall as a result of unsafe staffing levels, Care Quality Commission inspectors said.
They report also found that all staff reported low morale: "Staff regularly told us they were also concerned about the consequences on their professional registrations due to the unsafe situations they were faced with.
"We received whistleblowing enquiries from staff whilst we were on site informing us about the concerns they had about staffing."
The overall rating for medical care has remained rated as requires improvement.
The CQC has now served the trust with a warning notice as it needs to make significant and immediate improvements to its staffing levels in medical care.
In a statement, Good Hope says it fully accept the CQC’s recommendations, which they are already working through, and says they are committed to working with the commission positively.
