Solihull is supplying Covent Garden's famous Christmas tree
It was felled at a farm in Shirley on Friday (28th October)
A 60ft Christmas Tree which has been growing at a farm in Shirley for over 40 years has been cut down and transported to Covent Garden in time for Christmas.
Woods Farm in Shirley has been supplying Covent Garden's famous Christmas Tree for the last 12 years.
The Norwegian Spruce has now made its way to London where it is currently in the process of getting decorated with over 30,000 red and white lights and hundreds of baubles.
It will be ready on the 8th November in Covent Garden's Piazza, where it will be viewed by millions of people during the festive period.
Jeff Gilbert, the co-owner of Woods Farm Christmas trees in Shirley, first planted the tree 42 years ago.
He said: "It's a very high-profile site and it's probably the most viewed tree in Europe so it's nice to know we are supplying it."
Rachel Gould, from Scupltivate, manages the installation of the tree. She comes to Woods Farm every year to hand pick the best one.
She told us what she looks for in a tree: "We look for a nice symmetric top, and something with lovely branches to hold all our baubles and lights."
"Covent Garden's Christmas tree is one of the most photographed trees in the country every Christmas so it's really important we get the biggest and the best tree every year."
