Dudley teen jailed for attempted murder
The teenager admitted stabbing a 17-year-old boy in an unprovoked attack.
Deacon Hemmingway, who was also 17 at the time, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court where he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder with an additional five years on licence.
Hemmingway attacked his victim in Malthouse Drive around 7.45pm on 30 January leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Nearby residents rushed to his aid and called emergency services. Medical professionals feared he would not survive, but he did and began a long road to recovery.
Detectives trawled CCTV of the area and tracked Hemmingway following his victim, then making his way back to his home just minutes away in Wolverhampton Street after the attack.
He was arrested on 2 February and was wearing the same distinctive clothing caught on CCTV and had a large ‘rambo’ style knife down his trousers.
Detective Inspector Jackie Nicholson said: “With the weight of evidence against him, Hemmingway had little option other than to plead guilty.
“I am pleased that his sentence reflects the seriousness of his crime and serves to remind others that there are no winners when knives are involved.
“We work extensively with young people to deter them from carrying weapons as they have no place in our communities.”
