Dudley man jailed after 80mph police chase
A Dudley man has been jailed for dangerous driving after a police chase lasting 25 minutes across the West Midlands last month.
40 year old Rakash Lal, of Kent Road in Halesowen, was spotted by officers driving on Northfield Road in Netherton and drove off at high speed.
He mounted the curb, ran several red lights and drove the wrong way down Birmingham New Road in his efforts to get away.
He also reached speeds of 82mph in a 30 zone.
He stopped the car on Victoria Road in Handsworth after he damaged the front tyres of his car.
Officers found he was twice the legal alcohol limit and was carrying cannabis.
Lal pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, drink driving and possession of cannabis at Wolverhampton Crown Court last Monday (13 September).
He's been handed 14 months in prison and disqualified from driving for five years and five months.
After sentencing, West Midlands traffic officer PC Dan Lynas said:
“Mr Lal drove around the streets of the West Midlands with no care for anyone else’s safety.
“I am pleased to see that he took responsibility for his actions and pleaded guilty at court.
“The only saving grace of this behaviour is that no-one was hurt.
"Often this isn’t the case, especially when people chose to get behind of the wheel of a car after drinking. There is no excuse for it!”
