Woman detained under mental health act after dozens of cats rescued in Birmingham

A woman has been detained under the mental health act after the police and the RSPCA rescued dozens of cats from a home in Birmingham last week.
West Midlands Police carried out a warrant in conduction with the animal rescue charity after a number of concerned reports from local people in the community around Mere Green.
The animals have now been handed to the RSPCA where they are getting the care they need.
On social media, Birmingham Police said: "The cats were handed to the animal welfare charity after being found by officers inside a house in Mere Green.

"Many of the 36 cats required urgent medical care which was administered by vets on scene.
"Officers from Sutton Coldfield New Hall and the Four Oaks team worked alongside members of the RSPCA to search the house on Thursday (27 April) following concerns that had been raised by the community.
"We detained a woman under the Mental Health Act, she is now receiving support care."
