New contactless giving points installed in Birmingham to help the homeless
They have been installed in Snow Hill Station and at a local café
A new campaign has been launched in Birmingham to help rough sleepers and those at risk of homelessness.
The Change into Action Campaign set up by the West Midlands Combined Authority has installed new contactless giving points in the city centre, so members of the public can donate to help the homeless.
The giving points are located at Snow Hill station and at local café Wayland's Yard.
To launch the winter's campaign, Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, and Cllr Sharon Thompson, chair of the WMCA Homelessness Taskforce Members Advisory Group, were joined by local charities at Birmingham's Christmas Market last night.
John-Jo Von Johnson, Street Operations Manager at Colmore Business District, told us this campaign will make a huge difference: "It's important all year around but especially important during these winter periods. Hyperthermia is a big problem for people sleeping on the streets.
"We don't want to see anyone sleeping on the streets hence you can tap Change into Action donation points and put some money to help the homeless."
The money will go towards helping pay for rent for homeless people as well as essential items such as clothes.
