Calls for "immediate" action after another hit-and-run in Birmingham

The West Midlands Cycling & Walking Commissioner says "immediate" action is required to stop dangerous motorists after another hit and run in Birmingham this morning (Thursday).
A woman and child were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Kings Heath High Street.
Paramedics rushed to the scene, at around 8.51am, and began administering advanced trauma care to the child.
The child was then conveyed to Birmingham Children's Hospital by land ambulance. The woman was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Adam Tranter, West Midlands Cycling & Walking Commissioner, said: “The Mayor and I are appalled to see yet another serious collision involving vulnerable road users by a hit and run driver in Birmingham. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
"But thoughts will not be enough. This week I met the assistant chief constable to discuss West Midlands Police’s operational response to this ongoing unacceptable road violence.
"It is clear that this response needs to be substantial and immediate. I will continue to press WMP to ensure this happens.”
Two cyclists have been killed on Birmingham roads in separate incidents in recent weeks. One man was killed on the Belgrave Middleway in May and another man was fatally struck in Sutton Coldfield.
Police are appealing for information following the hit-and-run crash this morning.
