Boxing Day urges people to shop local
With the current tough times people are facing, they're being urged to shop locally this Boxing Day.
The Boxing Day sales have arrived here in the West Midlands and it's a time that can bring mixed emotions of excitement and dread.
Well this year, people are being urged to shop locally to help save businesses from going bust.
With the economic crisis regarding energy bills and the cost-of-living crisis, there's fears that footfall could fall in towns and cities.
There's also fears that sale reductions won't be as big as previous years.
Shropshire Chamber of Commerce are predicting the opposite, after they say "there's been a change in people putting more money into this Christmas."
They're part of the group asking residents to make the most of businesses round the corner from them instead of travelling to shop the Boxing Day sales.
Richard Sheehan is the Chief Executive at the Chamber and said: "I think it's really important, now more than ever, to buy local products wherever you can.
"The classic statement is if you don't use it, you will lose it. Nobody should underestimate how hard times are and we have a tendency to become complacent because we keep hearing about the difficulties we're facing.
"It becomes the norm but that shouldn't be the case."
