Birmingham fraudster who fled country following conviction appears in court

A man who fled the country to Dubai in 2018 after being convicted of fraud appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (23 Dec).

Zahid Khan, 37 from Moseley in Birmingham, was previously given a jail sentence in his absence of 10 years for offences including, conspiracy to commit fraud, transfer criminal property and pervert the course of justice.

Since his conviction West Midlands Police has been working with Interpol and overseas law enforcement agencies to bring the 37-year-old back to the UK to face justice.

Khan was arrested by Interpol in Turkey on 27 November and on 22 December he was arrested in the UK by West Midlands Police following his deportation.

He has been remanded in custody after he appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court charged with failing to appear.

Zahid Khan is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 15 January 2024.
