Birmingham Airport's new security hall on track to cut queues
It is set to open in June 2024
A new state-of-the-art security facility is on course to open by June 2024 at Birmingham Airport.
The 40 million-pounds investment will include new technology which will mean passengers won't have to separate their liquids and electronics when going through security.
It will also mean passengers can bring liquids over 100ml in their hand luggage.
Nick Barton, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport, said: " Our new security area is a major investment which will make things quicker and easier for customers.
"And the improved efficiency it delivers will help grow our annual customer numbers from 12 million to 18 million by 2033, in turning helping to boost economic growth across the West Midlands region."
But for now, whilst work is going on, customers can expect different walking routes and queuing spaces around the airport.
Customers travelling this Easter and this summer are still reminded to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight and to ensure liquids and electronics are out of bags before going through security.
The UK Government requires all airports to be compliant with new standards by 1st June 2024, which is the completion deadline for Birmingham Airport's security hall upgrade.
The airport is expected to see a 40% increase in it's passengers by 2033, which will help boost economic growth across the region.
