An armed siege in Sparkbrook has come to an end safely.
Officers forced their way into a property on Osborn Road in the early hours of this morning (27 Sept), where a man had barricaded himself in since Monday night.
Specialist firearms officers moved in just after 2am and detained the 31-year-old man.
He is now being taken into custody where he will be assessed by mental health professionals.
A man in his 60s, who had left the building on Monday night, was treated in hospital for injuries to his head, which are not believed to be serious.
Superintendent Alison Hurst, from Birmingham Police, said:
“We are thankful that this incident has ended safely, I am sure everyone in the local area shares in our relief.
"We are incredibly thankful for the way that the community in Sparkbrook – particularly the residents of Osborn Road – have supported us.
"I’d like to thank the firearms officers, negotiators, neighbourhood and other officers who have worked day and night to bring this to a safe conclusion.”
