5 year old boy from Birmingham dies while on family holiday
Kelan Logan-Derench, from Sutton Coldfield died after an accident in a swimming pool while in Egypt.
A five-year-old British boy has died after an accident in a swimming pool while on holiday in Egypt.
Kelan Logan-Derench, from Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham, died on November 24 while on holiday with family, according to a GoFundMe page set up by a family friend.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed in a short statement that it was supporting the family.
In the GoFundMe page organised by Serena Whitehead, a friend of Kelan's mother, he was described as a "cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy".
Ms Whitehead said: "Five-year-old Kelan Logan-Derench from Sutton Coldfield went on his first holiday abroad to Egypt on 24/11/2023 with his mum, elder sister and nan.
"Devastatingly only one day later Kelan had a tragic accident and fell into the swimming pool and heartbreakingly nothing could be done to save him and he sadly lost his life.
"Kelan was a cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy, he was a younger brother to Cienna and was about to become a big brother himself in February 2024.
"Kelan's whole family are absolutely broken and we can only imagine the pain they are going through, the least we can do as friends of the family and as a community is to help them by offering some financial support so that they can bring Kelan home and give him the funeral he deserves.
"Please donate whatever you can and encourage family and friends to support us so that we can support Kelan's family as quickly as possible.
"Thank you all for your support, any funds raised will be used to repatriate Kelan and give him the funeral he deserves when he is home."
After being created on Sunday, the fundraising appeal has already raised more than £14,000 of its £15,000 target.
In a statement, an FCDO spokesman said: "We are supporting the family of a British child who died in Egypt."
