University Hospitals Dorset marking Baby Loss Awareness Week
Events are taking place to support those who've experienced such a loss
A special remembrance service is being held by University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week (9th to 15th October).
The event at the Chapel of St Luke, within the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, will be held on Thursday evening (13th October) from 7.00pm.
It'll be led by Reverend Duncan Ridgeon, with the hospital's specialist nurses and local charity Our Angel Bears there to support families too.
The service is open to bereaved parents, friends and families, to commemorate the lives of lost little ones.
Rev Ridgeon said:
“We have a dedicated team of employees working tirelessly across our chaplaincy, maternity, pathology and patient services in order to provide the very best support possible for mums who are referred to us owing to baby loss.
“We felt passionately about supporting Baby Loss Awareness Week and raising awareness about baby loss in the UK, so we will be offering a special remembrance service for those who want to mark the passing of their little one in a special way.”
Another service is being held on Saturday evening (6.30pm on 15th October), at St Mary's Church in Wimborne.
That's being organised by Poole Hospital's affiliated charity SPRING, where poems will be read and families will have a chance to light a candle in a child's memory.
Once again this year, St Mary’s Longfleet Church in Poole is also being lit up each evening during Baby Loss Awareness Week.
The building is turning pink and blue from 7.00pm in support, and to mark the international 'Wave of Light' event.
