Two women have been injured by a gang of people said to be armed with knives in Weymouth.

At around 3.10am on Sunday (3 December) officers were called to reports that a group of people were walking around the town provoking fights and assaulting members of the public.

It is reported that during the incident a driver of a Citroen was threatened in Park Street car park by individuals who were armed with knives.

Two women sustained minor injuries during the incident.

A 20-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article with intent to cause fear of violence.

Detective Constable Nick Hunter, of County CID, said: “This was an unprovoked incident that involved an unknown number of people and I would like to reassure the public that a full and thorough investigation is underway.

“As part of my enquiries, I would like to identify anyone who was assaulted, threatened or witnessed the reported events in the early hours of the morning.

“I am particularly keen to identify the driver of the Citroen driver who was reportedly threatened by the group, an elderly man who was in the area and was approached and a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene.”
