A teenager's been handed a four year prison sentence for the manslaughter of a man at a Weymouth hotel.
19 year old Joe Michael Williams previously admitted the charge, after denying murder.
He's appeared before Bournemouth Crown Court today (Wednesday 2nd October) to hear his punishment.
Williams will also serve four years on licence.
It's in connection with the death of 35 year old Daniel Mark Hrycyszyn, in an incident in December 2023.
What happened?
Police were called to the Hotel Central in Maiden Street on December 30th last year.
Daniel Hrycyszyn, had previously lived there - as the site was no longer a commercial hotel, but instead being used to provide emergency accommodation for around 17 people.
He'd returned to the hotel to collect some belongings and ended up in a verbal dispute with people still living there.
An altercation subsequently took place in the disused bar area involving Mr Hrycyszyn and Williams.
Witnesses described seeing Williams having the victim in a choke hold before a security guard assisted Mr Hrycyszyn.
Daniel was taken to the reception area and, despite the efforts of officers and paramedics who attended, his condition deteriorated and he sadly died at the scene.
A post mortem examination revealed that Daniel had died as a result of severe internal bleeding in the abdominal area.
After the altercation in the bar, Williams could be heard boasting to fellow residents about how he had ‘dropped’ the victim and ‘put him on the floor’.
Williams was arrested by officers following enquiries at the scene and subsequently charged.
Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said:
“My thoughts remain very much with the family and loved ones of Daniel Hrycyszyn, who tragically lost his life as a result of Joe Williams’ violent actions.
“I would like to praise them for the dignified way they have conducted themselves throughout the investigation and the court process.
“I also want to thank all officers and staff involved in the initial response to help Daniel and the thorough investigation that followed. I am grateful to the Crown Prosecution Service and prosecution team for their support and assistance in bringing the case to court.”
