Rugby player assaulted during match in Sherborne

Dorset Police say they're now investigating it as a criminal matter

A rugby player's suffered a fractured eye socket and cheek bone after being assaulted during a rugby match in Sherborne.

Police say it happened at around 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon (4th March) during the first half of a match between Sherborne and Wellington at the Terrace Playing Fields.

The victim needed hospital treatment for his injuries.

Detective Constable Liam Moss, of Dorset County CID, said:

“I understand this incident may have been witnessed by a number of people at the match and would ask them to please come forward.

“We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and would ask anyone with information to help our investigation or mobile phone footage of the incident to please get in touch."
