New route launched by Weymouth Land Train
They've not been allowed to use the Esplanade since 2019
Weymouth's Land Train is expanding its services from today (Thursday 1st June), by offering a new route to Lodmoor.
The route will take passengers along the Esplanade to the Sealife Centre at the Pavilion end of the beach.
The Land Train hasn't been able to use that route since 2019 for environmental reasons, due to it using regular diesel.
Now a greener fuel source is being used, Weymouth Town and Dorset Councils have granted a licence.
The Land Train now uses Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil to run.
The new route will run from today until the end of August, and is in addition to the other route around Weymouth Harbour.
The services don't run at the same time though, as there's only one vehicle.
Tony Poole, owner of the Land Train said:
“This useful transport link is a favourite with tired families returning from Weymouth beach to the car parks at Lodmoor and those visiting the Sealife Centre. The Yellow route will operate in the mornings and afternoons only on the Esplanade.
"The Land Train will be using HVO Fuel – Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, a synthetic diesel alternative that is made from completely renewable raw materials. We are excited about the new route and providing a link from the Lodmoor car parks to the beach and town centre."
When do the Land Trains run?
Yellow Route – Beach from opposite The Gloucester to Sealife Centre from 9.00am – 10.30am and then again from 4.15pm – 6.15pm
Blue Route – Harbour from 11.00am – 3.00pm (every 30 mins)
