More Government investment for grassroots sports in Dorset

A new set of grants has been announced to support grassroots sports in Dorset, with several projects being supported.
South Dorset MP, Richard Drax, has welcomed the funding from the Government, towards efforts to get more of us active.
The local grants this time include:
- £971 for goalposts at Winfrith Newburgh recreation ground
- £1,007 for goalposts at Corfe Castle sports field
- £894 for goalposts at King George’s field in Swanage
- £1,602 for goalposts at the Marsh playing fields in Weymouth
- £5,413 for new floodlights at Winfrith Newburgh recreation ground
This follows a tranche of funding awarded to schemes across Dorset earlier this year. |newtab)
Richard Drax MP said:
“This is very good news. This is further evidence of the Government’s long term commitment to keeping the country healthy. I welcome any investment in sport and physical activity for all. It’s so good for people of all ages. And I hope it will help to inspire future generations of sporting talent.”
The grants are part of the ‘Get Active Strategy’ - a Government initiative to get over 3.5 million people more active by 2030, including one million young people.
The Government intends that a total investment of over £320 million between 2021 and 2025 will help to level-up grassroots facilities, targeting those communities most in need, and increase participation in sport among under-represented groups.
