A Honda motorcycle and a pedestrian were involved.
It happened in Wimborne Road near to the junction with Talbot Road.
The pedestrian – a man aged in his 70s from the Poole area – sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police Sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the traffic unit, said: “I am carrying out enquiries into this collision and would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.
“I would urge motorists who were travelling in the area and may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage to please get in touch.
“Finally, I am particularly keen to speak to the driver and occupants of a multi-purpose vehicle that came to a stop outside Lloyds Bank immediately after the collision as you may have information to assist my investigation.”
