Dorset primary school recognised by UNICEF
Burton Bradstock C of E's been awarded a Silver: Rights Aware prize
Pupils at a West Dorset primary school have been recognised by UNICEF for knowing their rights!
Burton Bradstock C of E Primary's been named as a Silver: Rights Aware School by the international charity.
Pupils were quizzed by a UNICEF adviser on their rights and what it's like to be a pupil.
Headteacher Adam Gough said:
“This is recognition of all the work put in by staff, pupils and the ‘Friends’ who have supported us throughout. We have just under 100 pupils aged three to 11 and children’s rights are embedded from the moment they start.
“UNICEF’s professional adviser Jilly Hillier was impressed with the commitment of the school and could see how the Rights Respecting Schools Award links to out values and ethos.”
Liz West, Chief Executive Officer of Initio Learning Trust, of which Burton Bradstock School is a part said:
“It’s great to see another one of our schools recognised by UNICEF. It is not just a box-ticking exercise and takes a great deal of work and commitment to gain these recognitions.”
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights, and more than 4,500 schools in the UK are working on the Rights Respecting Schools Award.
