Sculpture by the Lakes has changed its policy

A sculpture park near Dorchester is allowing dogs to visit the site, for the first time in its 11 year history.

Sculpture by the Lakes, at Pallington, has changed its policy, due to a high number of requests over the years.

Founders Simon and Monique Gudgeon say they've always been dog lovers, but previously hadn't allowed the pets onto the ground, because of concerns for their own rescue dogs living on site.

Simon Gudgeon said:

“Over the years many people have asked us to change our rules on dogs, often mistakenly assuming that they were in place because we don’t like dogs ourselves – which couldn’t be further from the truth!

“It’s been a big decision as it will mean changes for our own dogs, but we’re ready to take this step. Appreciating the very great pleasure of a walk with a four-legged friend by your side, we are excited to do this for our visitors.

“Hopefully it will mean more people are able to enjoy the special experience we have to offer, and more often too. For local dog-owners, an annual membership to Sculpture by the Lakes could be the perfect thing for their regular dog walk.”

Sculpture by the Lakes has more than 130 contemporary sculptures dotted around the grounds.

It also plays host to an annual wellbeing festival.

The site is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10.00am to 5.00pm during the winter, with entry priced at £14.50 per person.

Entry to The Makers Yard, including the Gallery, Kitchen, Pantry and Store, is free.
