Cyclist avoids jail for involvement in Poole fatal crash
A motorcyclist died in the collision last December
A cyclist involved in a crash in Poole, which killed a motorcyclist, has avoided jail.
59-year-old Garry Kopanycia-Reynolds from the town has been fined the maximum £2,500 after being found guilty of riding a cycle without reasonable consideration for others.
He's also been ordered to pay £450 in costs and a £190 victim surcharge by Poole Magistrates.
What happened?
23-year-old Callum Clements died after being thrown off his motorbike when the cyclist turned in front him on Ringwood Road, at the junction with Fernside Road on the morning of December 21st 2021.
Kopanycia-Reynolds also sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
PC Leanne Howes, of Dorset Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT), said:
“This is a very sad case that has seen Callum’s family lose their loved one and the cyclist involved has also sustained significant life-changing injuries.
“Our investigation was able to prove that the defendant clearly turned in front of the motorcycle, which had right of way, and this resulted in the collision.
“This is a demonstration of the truly awful consequences that can be caused by any road user failing to pay sufficient care and attention.”
