Man jailed for fracturing woman's eye socket during domestic assault
The 65 year old has been sentenced to two and a half years
A Bournemouth man has been jailed for a violent domestic assault that left his victim with a fractured eye socket.
Barry Alfred Puttock, aged 65, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Wednesday (25 January) to two and a half years in prison after being found guilty at an earlier trial of an offence of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Puttock was at his then partner’s address in Bournemouth on the evening of Tuesday 29 June 2021 and was drinking.
He became increasingly argumentative and at around 11.40pm without provocation he struck his victim with a clenched fist to her left eye.
The defendant left the address and the victim was taken to hospital, where she was treated for a large cut to her eyebrow and found to have sustained a fractured eye socket.
Following enquiries, Puttock was located and arrested on the morning of Wednesday 30 June 2021.
Detective Constable Ian Caddy, of Dorset Police’s Priority Crime Team, said: “We take all reports of domestic abuse extremely seriously. We will do everything we can to support victims and ensure robust action is taken against offenders.
“Barry Puttock’s victim has displayed immense courage to support our investigation and the court process and through her brave actions the defendant has been held to account for his violent offending.
“I hope her actions will inspire others to feel confident that they can report offences to police in the knowledge that they will be fully supported and we will take decisive action to ensure that domestic abuse perpetrators face justice.”
