Woman released after death of girl, 2, found in Hampshire pond

A woman arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a two-year-old girl who was found in a village pond in Hampshire has been released from custody.

The woman in her 40s remains under investigation after being detained under the Mental Health Act, Hampshire Police said.

The toddler went missing from her home in Forge Road, Kingsley, near Bordon on Sunday evening.

She was found a short time later in Kingsley Pond and taken to hospital, where she died on Monday.

People have left flowers and cards at the edge of the pond, one message reads: "sleep tight little girl."

The vicar in the village said the little girl's death had "shaken the community".

The investigation is ongoing.
