Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two people sadly died following a road traffic collision in Newcastle.

At 2.15am yesterday (Thursday 26th Sept) police received a report via the ambulance service of a collision on Chillingham Road, in the Heaton area of the city.

It was reported that a silver Mercedes 250 AMG vehicle had collided with a wall.

Emergency services attended and two occupants of the car – men aged 30 and 26 – were found to have sustained serious injuries in the collision.

Despite the efforts of medics they were sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Both men’s next of kin have been informed of their deaths and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Two other people who were also occupants of the car – two women aged 19 – were taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

They remain in hospital at this time.

Officers are now asking for anyone who may have information regarding the collision to contact them.

Sergeant Andy Ferguson, of Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “This is an incredibly sad incident and our thoughts are firmly with the families and loved-ones of the two people who have tragically died.

“We have specially-trained officers supporting them and will assist in any way we can.”
