Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has died aged 86.

He was the leader of the Forza Italia party and was Prime Minister of Italy three times from 1994-95, 2001-06 and 2008-11.

He was a controversial character due to allegations of corruption and sex scandals.

He had been in hospital over the weekend having previously been treated for a lung infection linked to leukaemia.
