Travel disruption to last for several days following Salisbury train crash

South Western Railway say most of the lines serving Salisbury will remain closed until at least the end of the day on Thursday (4th November) following the train crash on Sunday evening.
The line is currently closed as emergency services deal with the incident between Salisbury and Andover. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.
All lines between Salisbury and Andover and Salisbury and Romsey are blocked.
We are being urged not to travel on this part of the network as it's affecting trains between Exeter and Basingstoke and Great Western Railway (GWR) trains between Westbury and Portsmouth.
Instead, a two hourly train service will run in both directions between Exeter St David's and Gillingham.
Mark Killick the route Director for the Wessex Route for Network Rail:
"We are working very closely with the agencies who are investigating, the British Transport Police have control of site to start to understand how damaged the infrastructure is and what we need to do to restore I for our customers.
"It is too early to say how long it will be closed for, we have not been able to make site assessment, the trains involved in the incident are still on site, once we have full access we will remove the trains which will take some time and then we will make a full assessment of the track and the signalling to understand the repairs.
"In the background we are mobilising teams to carry out those repairs so we will do it as quickly as possible."
