Hollywood actor Russell Crowe says he's performing in the Highlands this summer.

The 'Gladiator' film star posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page announcing Inverness as one of his UK and Ireland tour locations this July.

He'll also perform in Warrington, London, Leeds and Dublin.

Crowe, who is also a musician, posted on his social media page last month asking fans what they would think about him performing in the Highlands.

Following on from that post, Inverness Provost Glynis Campbell Sinclair invited him to the city's Highland Games, which is happening at Bught Park on July 13th 2024.

However, Crowe hasn't confirmed the exact date of his gig in the Highland capital.

What's Russell Crowe's connection to the Highlands?

Earlier this year, Crowe revealed how he believes he's a distant relative of a notorious Jacobite Lord.

The 11th Lord Lovat Simon Fraser grew up near Beauly and is depicted as Jamie Fraser’s grandfather in the Outlander TV series.

Known as the Old Fox, Fraser was the last man to be executed by beheading in Britain after his clan lost at the battle of Culloden in 1746.

Reaction to Crowe's Inverness gig

Councillor Glynis Campbell Sinclair is delighted with the news of Crowe's visit.

She said: "Time to dust off that kilt Russell and we really look forward to welcoming you at the Inverness Highland Games on 13 July.

"Get in touch and let us know what you need to make this visit really special.”

“Inverness Highland Games is already a much-loved and popular event in the annual event calendar.

"The prospect of Russell Crowe’s presence would make this year’s event extra special.

“As I said in my invite video, he will no doubt get the chance to meet and greet the Lovat Frasers in the Clan Tent!”
