Two men who entered the River Hull to evade officers are still missing, Humberside police say.
Officers attempted to stop a car with a defective rear light on Friday (5th December).
The car failed to stop and later crashed into a wall on Charlotte Street.
Two men reportedly entered the river at around 8.30pm.
They have not yet been found.
A rescue mission was launched and teams from Humberside Police, Hull Coastguard Rescue Team, Humberside Fire & Rescue Service and Coastguard Helicopter ‘Rescue 912’ worked to find the men.
A Humber Rescue spokesperson say they were called out at 8.38pm and were stood down around two hours later. They said, "Multiple search legs were tasked, including bankside searches, tide-state reporting, and extended river sections from King George Dock towards Salt End.
"Conditions on the water remained poor throughout, with darkness, debris, and surface disturbance making visibility extremely limited. Despite this, a thorough and methodical search was carried out.
"At 22:39, after a full search evaluation, all units were stood down.
"The lifeboat returned to station at 23:13 and was washed, refuelled, and made ready for service by 23:45."
Leading the search Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth said “Following reports of two men entering the water, a search was immediately launched to locate and identify them.
“We are extremely concerned for their welfare and are conducting extensive lines of enquiries in an attempt to identify and locate them, so far this has included searches by our patrol officers, the Coastguard, Humberside Fire and Rescue service and our specialist Underwater Search Team.
“Residents and the local community can expect to see an increased police presence in and around the area over the weekend whilst the search continues and enquiries remain ongoing.
“To help with these enquiries, I would ask anyone who believes they know who these men are or who thinks that someone they know went missing yesterday evening to contact us immediately.
“I would also urge anyone who has information that could assist our enquiries including any CCTV, doorbell footage or witnesses who were in the area at the time to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 461 of 5 December."
