Policewoman seriously injured after stolen car crashes with police vehicle

The incident happened near Inverness after a car was stolen in Dingwall.

A female police officer has been left with serious injuries after a stolen car collided into a police vehicle.

The crash happened on the A82, just outside of Inverness, yesterday evening after a silver Subaru Forester was taken from the Cambrai Court area of Dingwall.

A police pursuit took place after the car failed to stop for officers.

The Subaru collided with one of the police vehicles before coming to a stop near Dunain.

Two men, aged 29 and 42, were arrested and are expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court today.

The policewoman was taken to hospital for serious, but not life-threatening injuries, while a male police officer sustained minor injuries.

The 29-year-old Subaru driver was taken to hospital for treatment.

Anyone who may have seen the car yesterday evening between Dingwall and the A82 are being urged to get in touch with police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Two men, aged 29 and 42, have been arrested and charged following the theft of a vehicle which crashed into a police car in the Highlands.

"Around 5.10pm on Sunday, 26 January, 2025, police received a report of the theft of a silver Subaru Forester from the Cambrai Court area of Dingwall.

"A short time later, a report was received of the same vehicle being driven dangerously on the A82 south of Inverness. Officers attended, however the car failed to stop and a pursuit took place. The car collided with one of the police vehicles before coming to a stop near Dunain.

"The 29-year-old male driver was taken to hospital for treatment. He and the 42-year-old are expected to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday, 27 January, 2025.

"A female police officer was treated at hospital for serious, but not life-threatening injuries, whilst a male officer sustained minor injuries in the incident.

"The road was closed for one hour, to allow for vehicle recovery to take place.

Inspector Donald MacKinnon, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, added: “Further enquiries into this incident remain ongoing and we ask for any motorists who may have seen the Subaru being driven between Dingwall and the A82 prior to the crash, to please come forward.

“You can call police on 101, quoting incident 2522 of 26 January, 2025.”
