A man has been charged after a police officer was hit by a car while responding to an incident in Greater Manchester.

The female officer was rushed to hospital from a car park in Cheadle on Saturday night (25 January).

The force has now confirmed a 19-year-old man from Knutsford has been charged with assault, dangerous driving and possession of a class B drug.

Harvey Bell is due to appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 28 January).

Superintendent Rick Arthern, of our Stockport District, said: “This was a truly terrifying incident for a frontline officer to go through, so I am delighted to secure these charges, which show that assaults on our officers are completely unacceptable.

“The officer is at home recovering and as the hardworking dedicated officer she is, she wants to return as soon as possible to protect her community.

“The vehicle used to run the officer over remains outstanding and we are asking for any information to assist in locating the vehicle.
