Man charged with attempted murder after knife assault in Penrith

The suspect is due to appear at Carlisle Magistrates' Court

A 46-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following an incident at a property in Penrith.

Samuel Hughes, of Brentfield Way, Penrith, was charged yesterday (29th November) with two counts of attempted murder, as well as grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife, and aggravated burglary.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 27th November, at an address in Brentfield Way, Penrith.

Police were called at 4:16am to reports that two people inside the property had been attacked with a knife.

Officers attended the scene and arrested Hughes on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

He was also taken to hospital due to injuries sustained during the incident before being transferred to police custody on Friday evening, 28th November.

The two individuals assaulted inside the property received hospital treatment for their injuries and were discharged later on Thursday.

Hughes remains in police custody after being denied bail.

He is scheduled to appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1st December.
